If you didn't know...last week was my birthday weekend and I had a blast! We started in Baltimore on Friday (11/13) at Eden's Lounge. Partied! Then Saturday, I went out to get my favorite red meat...LAMB CHOPS! Hmmmmm....Yum yum. I was treated to dinner at Smith & Wollensky's, a notable DC steakhouse. Afterward, was The Scene. I had been waiting months to see Southern Hip Hop Legends GOODIE MOB!
The show was awesome! And we were so close to the stage that we could practically smell the sweat dripping off of these dudes (gross I know, but stay with me here...) Cee-lo and the crew delivered.
There's just one thing though...one lil' itsy-bitsy thing that threw me off. There was a moment in the show when they all were performing a song. Cee-lo commenced to start rapping his verse. When the song got to the hook...no one was singing with him, so he told the DJ to stop the track, asked us if we knew the song ("ya'll don't know this?") and went to the back of the stage to pout. ("Ima just stand right here then...since ya'll don't know the song...") In my head I'm like... Cee-lo, must you be so DIVA???...its DC man...not ATLANTA!
I understand the hype behind Goodie Mob, my sister understands the hype behind Goodie Mob, and every other true hip hop head does also...I think. But that doesn't mean that those same hip hop heads were at THIS particular concert. He treated the crowd as if they were undeserving of his performance just because they didn't know THAT song.
I think that they all expected for everybody in the crowd to know all of the lyrics to all of the songs like fans from the South. (I suppose?? :-/) My sister and I did, but we are from Georgia, that is to be expected! I don't know if DC heads really mess with Goodie Mob like that...the main music genre here is Go-Go. But that doesn't mean that they don't appreciate pioneers of hip hop just because they don't know all the lyrics word for word. (In my Oprah Winfrey "Sophia" from Color Purple Voice) I luvs Cee-lo...Gawd knows I do...but I think that his little temper tantrum was a bit extra...and quite frankly it hurt MY lil' feelings because I was one of the ones who actually KNEW ALL the lyrics....SHEESH! LEAVE THE DIVA AT HOME NEXT TIME CEE-LO!! I still love you to death though and I will still buy tickets to all of your concerts and "Crazy" is still one of my all time favorite songs in the world...(amongst a thousand others...but that's besides the point)
Other than that...the show was AMAZING!!! :-)
So I posted pics and a couple of videos..ENJOY!!!
